Fallen Through the Cracks

Fallen Through the Cracks is a series that draws a parallel between mental health issues and the criminal justice system.  It is a film series that reveals true untold stories of people in society that experienced and suffered through a negative significant emotional event, yet did not receive the proper medical care (mental health life coaching, counseling, etc.) needed to overcome the trauma caused by the event. As a result, some of them go on and commit horrific acts in the community leaving society in utter shock. Once the shock has worn off, the shaken society retraces the steps of the horrific act looking for warning signs that could have prevented the nightmare and possibly saved numerous lives.  Once the evidence is gathered, we are left with these questions, “How did we get here?” or “How did this happen?” Often, cases show that warning signs were there but were simply ignored or overlooked which resulted in tragedy.

Studies show that incarceration rates are increasing for citizens with mental health issues. Can society change this? With open dialogue, analyzing cases and creating a community action plan, we think this parallel can be changed.

The Anointing

This is a film about Mary of Bethany. Challenging social and cultural gender roles, in the final week of Jesus’ life, Mary of Bethany is chosen by God to anoint Jesus for burial.  In a period where women were traditionally not treated in high regard, Mary of Bethany was moved by the spirit of God to anoint Jesus Christ with precious oil in preparation of Jesus’s body for future burial. We take a look at Mary of Bethany’s relationship with Jesus which was contrary to traditional customs pertaining to women societal roles.  Unlike her sister Martha, Mary was an emotional and spiritual being struggling with traditional beliefs of a woman’s place. Nevertheless, Mary’s encounters with Jesus directly challenges the status quo and traditional belief that a woman’s role was limited to the home or that of a wife and mother.
